Noche de Danza Mexicana IV
May 5 of 1984

Notes about the program.

For this program three new regions and their wardrobes were premiered:

Sones mazatecos from Huautla de Jiménez. The dresses were purchased in México City, but were made in Huautla itself.

Campeche; these dresses were made by Ma. Guadalupe replicating an outfit of hers which she had acquired in Campeche for her collection. The set includes an embroidered blouse and a skirt of brocade decorated with white lace.

And, finally the dances of Quintana Roo. This wardrobe was also made by Ma. Guadalupe, based on the prototype designed in 1936. This is a dress that incorporates elements native to Quintana Roo, the skirt is blue to mirror the waters of the Caribbean that hug the coast of Quintana Roo, the blouse is white with a lace peplum. The peplum symbolizes the foam that crest the waves of the ocean. The blouse and the skirt are decorated with snails, to symbolize the rich marine life of this area, and rubber trees alternate with the snails. Gum collecting has been one of the cash-producing activities of this area for more than a 100 years.
